Hi everyone. In this video report I cover the history and differences between Taekwondo and karate. Here are my notes:
NOTE:The name Taekwondo is derived from the Korean word “Tae” meaning foot, “Kwon” meaning fist and “Do”meaning way of. taekwando is a korean martial art

the name taekwondo has only been used since 1955 while the arts’ roots began 2,300 years ago in Korea.

In 1955 a board of instructors, historians and prominent society members sat down to coordinate all the schools and select a name for the hopefully unified art.

In April 1955 a new name was from a group of names by the board, it was Taekwondo.

In 1962 the Korean Amateur Sports Association recognized the Korean Taekwondo Union, which later became known as the Korean Taekwondo Association (K.T.A.).

On May 28, 1973 the World Taekwondo Federation was officially established at the Kukkiwon (headquarters) by Dr. Un Yon Kim. Located in Seoul, Korea the World Taekwondo Federation is the governing body which preserves Taekwondo’s roots and development, controls testing and testing requirements, and promotes the study of Taekwondo all over the world. In this way the WTF hopes to continue the unification of their native art.

taekwando now is really fun especially testing. testing requirements such as forms (poomsae/kata)
one steps and braking boards are really fun but there are other requirements too. learning taekwondo
myself has been a good learning experience. i am now a yellow belt and can spare as i said in the last video.

I really hope you try one of these martial arts yourself! famous people who do tkd: Chuck Norris

the history of Karate NOTE:Karate, the Japanese word for “empty hands,” was born in the Okinawan Islands as a form of self-defense

1905:     Karate is included in Okinawa’s physical education programs at the intermediate level.
1917:     Funakoshi gives the first public demonstration of karate-do.
1922:     Funakoshi is invited by Dr. Jano Kano to give a demonstration at the Kodokan Dojo, bringing karate-do to Japan.
1924:     The first university karate club is established in Japan, at Keio University.
1930s:    Karate makes its way to Canada.
1936:     Okinawan masters meet to discuss karate in Okinawa, a meeting sponsored by the newspaper Ryukyu Shimpo.
1939:     Japan opens Shoto-Kan, its first formal training school.
1945:     The first dojo is opened in the United States.
1949:     The Japan Karate Association is formed.
1950s:    Karate is introduced in the United Kingdom.
1960s:    Karate makes its way to the Soviet Union (the Russian Federation) and is banned and unbanned several times over the next three decades.
1964:     France Shotokan Karate is created in France.
1989:     Karate is legalized once again in the Soviet Union.

karate and taekwando are different in many ways like where they are from and striking arts but they are similar in ways to like the are both ways of self defense.
